Role & Responsibilities
The City of Princeton Planning, Building, and Zoning Office administers the building and zoning codes within the city corporate limits.
Building permits for all residential and commercial development projects are issued through this office.
Permits are required for the following work:
- New single-family, two-family, multifamily, and non-residential buildings;
- Building Additions and structural alterations;
- Accessory buildings including garages, sheds, gazebos, and greenhouses;
- Porches , decks, and carports
- Non-residential change in occupancy;
- Façade changes in B-1 district
- Driveways
- Swimming pools (with the exception of temporary inflatable swimming pools)
- Signs
- Demolition
- Street excavation
All construction must comply with the Adopted Building Codes and Zoning/Land Development Code. Any variations from the adopted Zoning/Land Development Code will need to be approved by the Princeton Planning Commission & Zoning Board of Appeals before a building permit will be issued.
This office also processes text amendments, special use permits, subdivisions, and planned unit developments.
