Message from the Princeton Police Chief

Princeton Illinois Police DepartmentI am honored to serve as your new chief of police. In the coming months I intend to spend the majority of my time getting to know the members of the community. You will see me working side by side with the officers as they go about their daily duties. Please do not hesitate to approach me and introduce yourself. I truly believe in working with the community to solve problems and further productive initiatives.

I am very fortunate to inherit a vast network of community partners who support the safety of our community, especially our children. I cannot wait to join forces with the schools, businesses and community groups as we build upon the great programs already in place and develop new ones to keep up with our evolving society.

I am especially grateful for the caliber of officers making up the Princeton Police Department. I have heard countless compliments on their professionalism from many of you. I will strive each day to build upon what was in place for me when I arrived here. The officers have expressed their desire to receive more training and I intend to seek out opportunities for training whenever possible. I strongly believe that training builds officers confidence, translating into better performance.

Technology is also important. We must be able to keep pace with the tools used by criminals who seek to victimize. Training and technology often come with a cost. I will be a faithful steward with the taxpayer money you have entrusted us with but understand, there may be times when I will ask for assistance. I will not come to you unless it is truly needed and rest assured there will be ample justification. I will encourage alternative funding ideas from anyone willing to discuss them, keeping with the notion that we are all in this together.

There is a quote I heard several years ago which reinforces for me that no issue is too small to address. “We encourage what we tolerate” rings true in many aspects of our life, especially when it pertains to crime. Bullying, drug use, abuse and disorder all start with something small and grow into larger issues if left unchecked. Our collective responsibility is to identify and address these issues early on, together.

I want to thank retired Chief Tom Root for his 17 years of service and the professional department he was instrumental in developing.

My goal is, and will always be, to lead a department which maintains a trusting relationship with the citizens of Princeton.
