In June 2016, a community-based planning effort was begun to develop a revitalization plan for Princeton’s historic Main Street. The study area extends for approximately two miles, from the Interstate 80 interchange, south along Illinois Routes 26/34/Main Street to Park Avenue – including Darius Miller Park, Veteran’s Park and the Courthouse Square. The planning effort is limited to three phases: Inventory, Assessment & Analysis; Benchmarking & Idea Generation; Visioning & Priority Setting. Each phase culminates with a report, all of which may be used to formulate a request for proposal (RFP) for priority area design and engineering. The reports will also guide fundraising and communications strategies, which are evolving on parallel tracks. The overall approach leverages Princeton’s unique cultural and natural resources to promote greater reinvestment and revitalization along Main Street and throughout the City of Princeton.
